At the Hoya location, the waste water from the paper machine and the board machine has been treated collectively since 1999.

For the manufacture of our products we require approx. 2.6 million cubic metres of water per annum.

Despite the low specific fresh water consumption of just 7,3 litres per kilogram of White Lined Chipboard/ Containerboard, about 2,2 milion cubic metres waste water are still produced per annum at Hoya. This waste water is purified in an aerobic waste water treatment plant using a state-of-the-art process and is subsequently channelled into the River Weser.

The Biogas that is produced in the anaerobic reactors is used as fuel, after desulphurisation, to generate steam in the plant’s own power generator.

Our waste water treatment plant has a so-called „population equivalence„ of approx. 400,000.
